The screen on my laptop died and there’s a burning smell. Apparently this is common in MacBooks purchased in 2012. The good news is that (a) we have spare computers and computer-like things around due to my husband’s PC gaming habit (b) there is nothing of any particular urgent necessity on my laptop (although there are reasons I’d prefer to fix it rather than replacing it) and © I’m in Japan, home of Quick Garage repair centers. I’ve had my computer fixed by them before, and it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than having Apple do it. AND they’re Apple-approved. AND that means I only have to go to Yokohama instead of all the way to Tokyo.
The bad news is that it is the only device to which I installed a few of my more recent ND titles. The disks for those titles were in my Kindle case that I left on the plane when I moved to Japan. And also it is the only device that will even run my copy of Sea of Darkness, because when you buy digital downloads from HerInteractive you can get them for *either* Mac or PC, not Mac *and* PC. I have since learned my lesson about buying digital copies: don’t. Luckily, I will be back in the US by the time MID comes out (if it ever comes out) so I won’t have to worry about a physical copy getting lost in the mail.
